WALTHAM — Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Waltham Police Chief Keith MacPherson said Saturday night they are investigating an apparent murder-suicide on Forest Street.

Police received a call at 5 p.m. for a request for a wellness check at the home, according to a statement released Saturday.

“Upon arrival they observed two residents of that address to be deceased. The incident is an apparent murder suicide,” the statement said.

“This is an open and active investigation and no additional information will be released at this time. This is an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety,” Ryan said.

The home at 294 Forest St. is owned by Kevin and Jeannine O’Connor, according to Waltham property records. A call placed to the residence Saturday night was not immediately returned.

Police remained at the home throughout the night. Shortly after 9 p.m., police removed at least two rifles and a small box.

A Waltham police officer at the scene would not comment on the activity at the house.
Police received a report of an open door at the home around 5:45 p.m., according to the Waltham police log.

Police were on the scene for much of Saturday night. Lights inside the home were on for several hours. Police investigators could be seen entering and exiting the property.

The scene puzzled residents of the busy street, which is not far from Bentley University.

Joan Salamone, who lives two houses away from the property, said she noticed flashing police lights and a fire truck while she was watching the New England Patriots game.

“It’s upsetting,” said Salamone, a longtime resident.
